Early Childhood Literacy and Math Goals
Early Childhood Goals and Plans
Updated for 2023-2027
Early Childhood Committee
This set of goals and plans is established to comply with the requirements enacted by HB3 for school boards to establish goals and adopt plans to achieve proficiency in early childhood literacy and mathematics.
Specifically, at least sixty percent of all students reaching the “Meets” standard on the 3rd grade STAAR tests in both reading and math was originally required in five years (by 2024). For Rise Academy, our students have consistently reached or exceeded this sixty-percent threshold already. Thus, our goals are set substantially above that level. However, our percentages of improvement over time may reflect a less ambitious path, as a higher base year can make marginal improvement more challenging.
State-endorsed Assessments Through the CLI Engage Portal:
Baseline Data: The goals for grades pre-k through 2nd grade are based on either spring of 2021 or spring of 2022 data.
Progress Monitoring. Progress monitoring by the Rise Academy board will be done to the degree minimally required by statute, which is annually. This is due to our belief that the state-endorsed assessments for pre-k through 2nd grade add relatively little to our actual understanding of student growth throughout the school year. Instead, the more important assessments are the school developed end-of-year tests, which are given once per year in the spring.
